The Manifesto by Hillman Lentz
A Contrarian's Guide to Doing Nothing
(and Getting Everything That Matters)
"The world screams hustle harder.
This is the antidote."
You've been sold the grind. You bought in. And somewhere along the way it stopped working — or maybe it never did. This manifesto is the permission slip you didn't know you needed.
Why This Exists
Not a self-help book. Not a framework. No guru. Just a straight read from someone who figured it out the hard way — and is still figuring it out.
This isn't a book born in an office. It's what remained after forty years of building, failing, and finally stopping long enough to notice: the things that actually work aren't the ones you force. The less you push, the more you gain. Written down so it wouldn't be forgotten. Now it's yours.
The Story
Background
Forty years of hard lessons on business, life, and staying sane while building things.
The Manifesto
"I was too busy running. Running companies. Running deals. Running from silence. And it worked — until it didn't."
— Hillman Lentz
For decades, he chased it — across four continents, building companies, filling calendars, measuring life in deals closed and miles flown. He told himself it was for his family. That part wasn't entirely true. The hunger was his own — to prove, to build, to be someone. And somewhere along the way, the real person got lost inside the one doing all the proving. He had the philosophy. Forty years studying the Tao Te Ching. Alan Watts. Marcus Aurelius. Journals full of notes. But wisdom doesn't live in books. It lives in what gets stripped away when you finally stop running.
"One morning, my body made the decision for me. A health scare. It was as if life tapped me on the shoulder and whispered: Enough."
— Hillman Lentz
He had been moving so fast toward tomorrow that he forgot to be here today. When he finally stopped, he wrote it down — not to publish, just to remember. Rules for himself. A private guide to staying sane while building things. He started sharing it with a few people. They said it helped. Then more people said the same. Sometimes the thing you wrote for yourself is exactly what someone else needed most.
The Philosophy
Six pillars. A lifetime in the making. Not theory — lived practice.
The grind feels noble but slowly kills you. Flow renews itself as you move. Work harder by working smarter — or better yet, by working with the current, not against it.
Effortless action. Not inaction — alignment. Momentum without madness. Discipline without destruction. Not rowing upstream.
The hustle sells itself as freedom but chains you tighter. "Burning out today will never buy you freedom tomorrow. The antidote isn't laziness — it's alignment."
Money is paper. Time is life. "At the end, nobody begs for one more deposit. They beg for one more day."
Remember death — not to fear it, but to sharpen life. Marcus Aurelius: "You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do, say, and think."
"The less you force, the more progress you make." Plant the seed. Water it. Trust it. Don't yank it up every morning to check the roots.
"Grind feels like dragging a corpse uphill. Flow feels like the current is carrying you."
— The Not-So-Guru Manifesto
"Here's the paradox: the less you force, the more progress you make."
— Chapter 9: Progress Without Forcing
"If you start in reaction mode, the world owns you. If you start in silence, you own yourself."
— Chapter 13: Morning Without Panic
"In silence, you meet yourself. And once you can hear yourself clearly, you'll never need to shout to be heard."
— Chapter 24: The Power of Silence
"Every yes is a piece of your life you'll never get back. Choose accordingly."
— Chapter 23: The Power of Saying No
What You'll Carry With You
Not commandments. Not hacks. Just reminders.
Build boldly.
Create what matters. Step into the arena. Build things that give you life, not take it away.
Rest deeply.
Recovery is fuel, not failure. Sleep is the highest ROI investment you'll ever make.
Stop forcing.
Progress isn't about how much you push. It's about how much you align.
Flow with the current.
Life moves with or without you. Partner with it. Wu wei — momentum without madness.
Spend time, not just money.
Time is the only true treasure. Health is wealth. Presence is wealth.
Remember death.
Not to fear it — but to stop postponing life. Memento mori.
Laugh often.
Taking yourself too seriously is the fastest way to miss the joke.
Keep Moving Forward… or don't.
Rhythm, not rigidity. Sometimes the smartest move is no move at all.
